Position title
Interim Financial Controller Stablecoin / Digital Assets (Pre-Launch Build), London
Description

Engagement: Interim, four to six months initial, three to five days per week by agreement | Location: London, hybrid | Rate: £550–£700 per day | Start: August–September, ahead of trading go-live from November

Accountancy Capital is recruiting an Interim Financial Controller for a well-funded, pre-revenue digital assets business preparing to launch a stablecoin proposition, with trading planned from November onwards. The finance function today is a funding runway model and an external accountant; by go-live it needs to be a working control environment that will satisfy a board, auditors and — as the UK's stablecoin regime crystallises — the FCA. This is a build engagement in the purest sense: the successful candidate starts with a nearly blank page and hands over a functioning finance stack as trading volumes arrive. The client's identity is shared before interview.

Responsibilities

The build, concretely

  • The core stack: select and implement the accounting platform and surrounding tools — chart of accounts designed for a token-issuing business, expense and payroll plumbing, month-end calendar — proportionate now, scalable at launch
  • Reserve and backing-asset control: design the reconciliation architecture between tokens in issue and the backing assets held — the stablecoin equivalent of client-money discipline, built to daily cadence and evidence standards from day one
  • Controls and policies: delegated authorities, payment controls, treasury procedures for fiat and digital asset movements, and the accounting policy papers (token issuance and redemption, reserve income, custody arrangements) a first audit will test
  • Regulatory readiness: the finance components of authorisation and the incoming FCA stablecoin regime — capital and liquidity monitoring, safeguarding-style reporting, and the MI a regulated board needs monthly
  • Launch support: the first months of live trading — reconciliations running at real volume, the close proven, and either a handover to a permanent hire or a conversation about becoming one
Qualifications

Who this needs

  • A qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with Financial Controller experience in an FCA-regulated environment — payments, e-money, an investment firm or digital assets — who has lived reconciliation-and-evidence discipline, not read about it
  • A genuine builder: you have implemented a finance stack or stood up a function before, and you enjoy the blank page more than the maintained machine
  • Working fluency with digital assets — or the demonstrated appetite to acquire it fast; token/reserve mechanics will be the centre of your reconciliation design
  • Comfortable as the senior finance voice in a founder-led, pre-revenue business: pragmatic about proportionality, immovable about control
  • Available to start August–September and commit through launch

Also valued: safeguarding or CASS experience; a previous authorisation process; crypto-native accounting tooling exposure; audit-firm background in digital assets or payments.

Job Benefits

The engagement terms

£550–£700 per day reflecting the regulated and digital-asset premium, three to five days per week by agreement, four-to-six-month initial term with launch-period extension likely and a permanent conversation genuinely open for the right person. IR35 status will be assessed against the final working arrangements. The process is fast — one conversation with us, two with the client — because the November clock is real.
