Position title
Interim Finance Manager – Agricultural Sector, Kent
Description

Location: Kent (on-site)
Contract: Interim, approximately 3 days per week, for up to 18 months
Salary: Circa £75,000 FTE equivalent, pro rata
Sector: Agriculture / Horticulture

About This Assignment

We're supporting a well-established agricultural business in Kent in its search for an experienced Interim Finance Manager. This is an on-site role at the heart of the organisation, and it calls for more than general finance capability — the client is specifically looking for someone who understands how a grower-based business actually operates: the seasonality, the member and grower relationships, and the operational pressures that come with it.

You'll take charge of the day-to-day finance, administration and HR function, reporting into the Managing Director and providing regular updates to the Board and Audit Committee. There's an immediate, time-critical focus on asset transfer administration ahead of a member payment deadline early in the new year, alongside the full run of management accounting, statutory compliance and treasury duties you'd expect from a Finance Manager role of this scope.

This assignment would suit an interim or fractional finance professional who already understands the agricultural or horticultural sector, and who's comfortable settling into a new environment quickly without a long induction period.

Responsibilities

What the Role Involves

  • Leading the finance and administration function day to day, with direct line management of a small team
  • Producing monthly and quarterly management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, and cashflow forecasts
  • Running the annual budgeting cycle and maintaining rolling forecasts
  • Handling statutory reporting and compliance — annual accounts, audit liaison, VAT, and other regulatory returns
  • Managing treasury activity, including payment approvals, cash monitoring and banking relationships
  • Overseeing payroll, pensions and employee benefits administration
  • Leading asset transfer administration and grower/member payment and account sales processes
  • Preparing papers and updates for the Board and Audit Committee
  • Managing HR administration — employee records, absence tracking, and the full employee lifecycle from onboarding to offboarding
  • Supporting recruitment, employee relations and HR policy, working alongside external HR and employment law

  • Strong management accounting, statutory reporting and audit experience
  • Confidence leading a small finance team
  • Solid budgeting, forecasting and cashflow management skills
  • Advanced Excel and experience with Sage or a comparable accounting system
  • Experience with HR administration and a working knowledge of UK employment legislation
  • Comfortable working independently on-site, with priorities that shift across the seasonal calendar
