Position title
Senior Finance Manager - FCA Regulated Investment Business - London
Description

Location: London
Salary: £75,000–£95,000 depending on experience
Type: Permanent, full-time
Start: As soon as available

An FCA-regulated investment business is looking for a Senior Finance Manager to take ownership of the finance function as the business scales. This is a broad role covering both sides of finance in an authorised firm: the ordinary discipline of running the numbers, and the regulatory obligations that sit on top of them.

It suits a qualified accountant who already understands what changes when a firm holds a permission — or a strong Finance Manager from a commercial background with genuine control discipline, ready to move into regulated finance with support around them.
The Role

You will be the senior finance presence in the business, responsible for the integrity of the numbers and for the regulatory reporting and client money obligations that come with authorisation.

That is a genuinely two-sided remit. On one side, the month-end close, the balance sheet, the management accounts, the statutory cycle and the audit. On the other, the client money position, the reconciliations that support it, the regulatory returns, and the evidence trail behind both. The second half is what makes this different from a commercial Finance Manager role — the deadlines belong to the regulator, the reconciliations happen on a defined frequency rather than a preferred one, and documentation is a control rather than good practice.

Responsibilities

Own the month-end close and the management accounts, including commentary the leadership team can act on
Own the balance sheet: reconciliation index, monthly review with evidence, and accountability for its integrity
Client money oversight — the calculation, the reconciliation, the breach register and the evidence supporting each
Prepare and submit regulatory returns to the FCA calendar
Monitor the firm’s regulatory capital position and report it in the management pack
Manage the statutory accounts process and both the financial and client money audits
Design and maintain the control framework — approval limits, segregation of duties, system access
Cash flow management and forecasting
Act as the finance point of contact for the leadership team, auditors and advisers
Document the process so it exists outside one person’s head

Qualifications

Essential

Qualified accountant — ACA, ACCA or CIMA
Proven experience as a Finance Manager or Financial Controller with genuine ownership of a close and a balance sheet
Understanding of what authorisation means in practice — ideally direct experience of client money, regulatory reporting or regulatory capital
Comfortable with fixed external deadlines and the documentation discipline that goes with them
Strong control instinct: reconciliation discipline, segregation, and the habit of evidencing rather than asserting
Able to explain the regulatory position clearly to people who are not accountants

Desirable

Direct CASS experience — the specific regime is less important than having owned a client money calculation and reconciliation
Experience in an investment firm, wealth manager, fund manager or similar authorised business
Familiarity with MIFIDPRU, own funds requirements or the ICARA process
Experience of being the first or only qualified finance hire in a growing regulated firm
Exposure to an FCA authorisation process or a significant permissions change

Candidates from a strong commercial financial control background who have not yet worked in an authorised firm are welcome to apply, provided the control discipline is genuinely there. Our guide to regulated versus commercial financial control sets out honestly what transfers and what does not.
