Position title
Fractional CFO Higher/Vocational Education Sector
Description

Our client is an established, UK-based higher and vocational education provider with a growing international footprint. Having moved in the past year from a founder-led structure to a more formalised organisation, they are now seeking a Fractional CFO to strengthen financial leadership as the business matures.

The Role

This is a part-time, fractional appointment reporting to the COO and Board. Initial involvement will be more intensive as you establish reporting structures and financial systems; this is expected to settle to approximately 2–3 days per month (excluding meetings) once the internal finance team is trained and embedded.

Key responsibilities:

Review and reset expense and income reporting structures, bringing greater visibility and control
Support the transition from informal, promoter-driven financial management to structured, board-ready reporting
Advise on financial decision-making to support business continuity amid changing turnover conditions
Own board-level financial compliance and assurance
Train and upskill the internal finance team to sustain reporting standards after the initial setup phase
Provide strategic financial input across cost base, revenue streams, and cash management

Qualifications

About You

Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent) with CFO or senior FD experience
Track record of building financial reporting structures from a less formal base
Comfortable working fractionally / part-time at board level
Experience in education, membership, or another recurring-revenue services sector advantageous
Strong communicator, able to train and hand over process ownership to an internal team
