Position title
Financial Controller PE-Backed Manufacturing Group - Birmingham
Description

Accountancy Capital is recruiting a Financial Controller for a profitable, private-equity-backed manufacturing group headquartered in Birmingham. The business is mid-way through its investment plan — growing organically and by bolt-on acquisition — and the finance function is being built to match: this appointment takes ownership of the group's financial control so the Finance Director can concentrate on the deal pipeline and the value-creation plan. The client's identity is shared at shortlist stage.

Why this role stands out

Manufacturing FC roles at PE-backed businesses are the fastest developmental seats in regional finance: real costing complexity, investor-grade reporting standards, acquisition integration experience, and a Finance Director with every incentive to develop a successor. This one adds a genuine equity-adjacent bonus structure and a board that reads the pack properly the work gets used, which is not true everywhere

Responsibilities

What you will own

The month-end close across the group — currently day eight, target day five — and the management pack the board and investors steer by
Standard costing and margin analysis across the product range: variance analysis that reaches the shop floor, not just the P&L summary
Balance sheet integrity: stock (perpetual inventory and the annual count), WIP, fixed assets and the reconciliation discipline beneath them
Cash and working capital — the 13-week forecast, debtor management and the covenant reporting to the lender
The statutory cycle: year-end accounts, the audit relationship, and tax compliance alongside external advisers
Finance systems and controls as the group grows — including the finance workstream of bolt-on integrations
Leadership of a five-person team, with two qualified accountants reporting directly

Qualifications

The person this suits

ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified with current or recent Financial Controller (or strong number-two) experience in manufacturing, engineering or another stock-heavy environment
Genuinely fluent in standard costing, BOMs and variance analysis — you can hold your own with operations on why the margin moved
Comfortable with the PE cadence: monthly investor reporting, covenant discipline, and the pace that comes with an investment thesis
A team builder with the appetite to step toward Finance Director within the investment cycle — succession is part of this brief
Birmingham-based or within sensible reach; the role is site-present by design, with hybrid flexibility once established

Also valued: acquisition integration experience; ERP implementation exposure; a first PE cycle already completed.

Job Benefits

Package and process

£75,000–£90,000 base depending on experience, plus a performance bonus aligned to the investment plan, pension and benefits. Interview process: a conversation with us, then two client stages including time on site — you should see the operation you would be controlling. We aim to complete the process within four weeks of shortlist.
