Position title
Interim Financial Controller and Finance Manager - Year-End and Project Cover
Description

Location: UK-wide — hybrid, remote and on-site
Rate: £350–£600 a day depending on level and complexity
Basis: Interim — full-time and finite, typically six weeks to nine months
Start: Ongoing, with demand heaviest between September and March

We are building our interim panel ahead of the busiest part of the year. Between now and March, UK businesses with December and March year-ends will discover the gaps in their finance functions — a departure at the wrong moment, a first audit, a systems migration, a maternity leave, or a permanent search that will not conclude before the year-end.

Interim work is full-time and finite. The test a client applies is whether they can name when it ends — and that is what makes it different from the fractional arrangements we also place. If you want a defined brief, a clear finish and the freedom between assignments, this is the panel to be on.

The Kind of Briefs We Place

  • Year-end and audit cover — preparing the file, running the audit from the client side, clearing a reconciliation backlog
  • Departure cover at Financial Controller or Finance Manager level while a permanent search runs
  • Group consolidation and reporting-season support, which is scarcest exactly when everyone needs it
  • Systems implementation and migration — running finance while the change happens, or running the change
  • Post-acquisition integration and first-time consolidation
  • Maternity and long-term absence cover
  • Fixing a close that has drifted, and documenting it so it stays fixed
Qualifications

What We Look For

Essential

  • Qualified accountant — ACA, ACCA or CIMA — or qualified by experience with a clear record of owning a close
  • Able to arrive and be useful inside a fortnight. Interim clients are not paying for a settling-in period
  • Comfortable inheriting a mess, and genuinely interested in the ones that are broken
  • Available at short notice, or with a clear picture of when you are next free
  • Willing to document what you do, so the function does not degrade when you leave

Particularly useful

  • Group consolidation under IFRS or FRS 102, and multi-entity or multi-currency experience
  • Having taken a business through a first audit
  • Systems experience — NetSuite, Dynamics, Sage Intacct, Xero, Workday — especially migrations
  • FP&A and budget-season capability, which peaks between September and December
  • FCA-regulated experience — client money, safeguarding or regulatory reporting. Scarce, and it carries a rate premium
  • Umbrella or limited company arrangements already in place, with a view on IR35 status
Job Benefits

What We Offer

  • £350–£600 a day depending on level, sector and the technical demands of the brief
  • Briefs scoped properly — we establish what is actually broken before you arrive, so the scope reflects reality
  • Fast turnaround. Most interim briefs go from client call to shortlist in 48–72 hours, so you hear quickly either way
  • Honest positioning on IR35 status and engagement basis before you commit
  • Repeat work. Clients who have used an interim well tend to come back, and we place the same people repeatedly
