We are a leading £80 million cement and construction materials company based in Maidstone, Kent. With decades of industry experience, we serve both national and regional infrastructure projects across the UK. As we continue to scale and diversify, we are looking for a highly capable and commercially driven Financial Controller to support our leadership team and drive operational and strategic financial performance.
This is a pivotal leadership role where you will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the business, ensuring strong financial controls, compliance, and reporting. You will also play a key role in driving profitability, supporting capital investment decisions, and delivering financial insights to enable strategic growth.
Lead and manage the finance function, ensuring timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
Oversee management accounts, statutory accounts, VAT, corporation tax, and audit preparation.
Manage the budgeting and forecasting process in collaboration with the wider leadership team.
Drive cost control initiatives and identify opportunities to improve margins and operational efficiency.
Monitor and manage cash flow, capital expenditure, and working capital.
Provide commercial finance support for pricing, contract analysis, and investment appraisals.
Ensure full compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal controls.
Manage relationships with external auditors, banks, insurers, and regulatory bodies.
Mentor and develop a finance team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Play an active role in business planning, M&A activity, and ERP/system optimisation projects.
ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified with 7+ years of progressive finance experience.
Previous experience as a Financial Controller or Head of Finance in a manufacturing, construction, or industrial business (cement or heavy materials experience is a strong plus).
Strong understanding of cost accounting, production reporting, and inventory control.
Demonstrated ability to deliver improvements in financial processes and controls.
Commercially astute, with experience influencing cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders.
Proficient in financial systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Sage) and advanced Excel user.
Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
