Position title
Senior Tax Manager / Tax Director – Founding Hire, New Tax Division
Description

The role

An established, FCA-regulated wealth management business in Bristol has decided to stop referring its clients' tax work out to third-party practices and bring it in-house instead. It now needs the senior tax professional who will build that capability from the ground up.

The client base is unusual: high earners from professional sport and the entertainment world, whose income tends to arrive in short, intense bursts rather than a steady career-long curve. That pattern brings a particular flavour of complexity — image rights, incorporation structures, remuneration planning, and long-term wealth preservation all sit close together for these clients, and until now that work has been sent elsewhere. The firm wants to keep it, and to open genuine two-way referrals between tax and wealth management under one roof.

This is a founding appointment, not a role that already has a desk, a process, or a team attached to it. You would be the first hire into the division, with real scope to define how it operates — pricing, service scope, workflow, the systems it runs on — before building out the team beneath you as the division grows. It sits inside a well-capitalised, national advice network backed by one of the UK's longest-standing wealth management names, so the platform and client relationships are already there; what's missing is the person to lead the tax side of it.
What you'll be doing

Building and leading the firm's tax and accountancy division from a standing start
Advising high-net-worth clients from sport and entertainment on personal tax, image rights, incorporation, remuneration structuring and long-term planning
Working alongside the wealth management team to join up tax and investment advice, and developing the referral flow between the two
Defining the service model — scope, pricing, workflow, software and compliance processes
Recruiting and developing a team as the division and the wider firm expand
Operating as a partner in the making rather than a technician delivering to someone else's brief

Responsibilities

What we're looking for

A senior tax professional from a practice background — CTA qualified, or ACA/ACCA with a strong personal tax specialism. Dual qualification in tax and accountancy is of particular interest
Demonstrable private client or high-net-worth personal tax experience; exposure to sport, entertainment, media or other high-earning individual clients is a strong advantage
A track record of building or materially growing a service line, department or client portfolio — not simply inheriting one that already exists
Commercial instinct alongside technical strength: this is a role that wins and keeps clients, not just services them
The credibility and communication skills to sit in front of clients and their other advisers, and genuine appetite to work closely with a wealth management team
Someone looking for a long-term home with autonomy and ownership, rather than a stepping-stone role

Job Benefits

What's on offer

A base salary of £80,000 to £100,000 depending on experience, plus bonus and profit share. The reward structure is deliberately built around profit share rather than fee-based commission, so the person leading the division is rewarded for building something lasting rather than for chasing individual billings.

Beyond that, there is a genuine route to equity participation over the next three to five years for the right person. The firm is growing — additional premises, further wealth managers and support staff — and wants the person who leads this division to grow with it.
