Position title
Interim CFO – National Infrastructure Business (Part of International Group)
Description

Location: Thames Valley / Hybrid
Start: Immediate
Duration: Interim, open-ended
Rate: Up to £1,250 per day

Role
Accountancy Capital is supporting a leading UK infrastructure business, part of a larger international group, in appointing an experienced Interim CFO at short notice. The business owns and operates a nationwide estate of many thousands of sites, delivering services that millions of people and businesses depend on every day.

The appointment provides senior finance leadership while the permanent finance leadership team is unavailable. The start is immediate and the duration is open-ended, so the client needs a seasoned interim who can step in at very short notice, take control of the finance function quickly and give the board, the wider group and shareholders full confidence from day one. This is a role for someone who hits the ground running. You'll need to be comfortable with ambiguity and able to assess priorities quickly, and you should have a track record of stabilising and leading finance teams through periods of change.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the finance function and ensure full continuity across month-end close, management and statutory reporting, forecasting and cash management.
  • Act as the senior finance contact for the board, the wider group and shareholders, delivering accurate and timely reporting to group deadlines and governance requirements.
  • Oversee the financial management of a large, geographically dispersed estate, including lease and landlord portfolios, rent obligations and reviews, site-level costs and associated disputes.
  • Maintain robust control over capital expenditure programmes, fixed asset accounting and investment appraisal across a capital-intensive asset base.
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS, including lease accounting at scale, and manage audit, tax, treasury and banking matters as required.
  • Support, steady and motivate the finance team, setting clear priorities and maintaining performance during a period of change.
  • Identify and address any immediate financial risks, control weaknesses or reporting gaps.
  • Plan for and deliver a clean, well-documented handover when the permanent leadership returns.
Qualifications

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with substantial experience as a CFO, Finance Director or Group Financial Controller.
  • Background in utilities, telecoms or digital infrastructure, energy networks, transport or large property estates, ideally including responsibility for thousands of sites, leases or assets.
  • Experience working within a subsidiary of a larger group, including group reporting and multi-stakeholder or shareholder governance.
  • A demonstrable interim track record, with assignments where you made an impact within your first days.
  • Strong technical knowledge of IFRS, particularly lease accounting and the reporting needs of capital-intensive businesses.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the presence to engage confidently at board and group level.
  • Available to start at short notice and comfortable with an assignment of uncertain duration.
Job Benefits

  • A highly competitive day rate of up to £1,250.
  • The opportunity to lead finance for a nationally critical infrastructure business within a respected international group.
  • Hybrid working with flexibility.
  • An immediate start, with real potential for an extended assignment.
  • A high-profile interim role that will add significant weight to your portfolio.
