Finance & Accountancy Recruitment by Sector

Accountancy Capital places qualified finance professionals at £50,000 and above across all major UK industry sectors. The roles we place — Financial Controllers, Finance Managers, Finance Business Partners, FP&A Managers, Management Accountants, Financial Accountants, Tax Managers and Fractional finance professionals — appear in every sector of the UK economy. What differs between sectors is the specific technical context the finance function operates in, the salary benchmarks that apply, and the depth of sector-specific experience that employers typically require from candidates at each level.

The pages below cover the sectors where Accountancy Capital has the deepest candidate networks, the most active placement history and the most specific market knowledge. For any sector not listed, call 0204 553 8893 — we place qualified finance professionals across the full range of UK business sectors and can give you a direct view on the candidate pool and salary benchmarks before you brief a search.

Financial Services & FCA-Regulated Businesses

Financial services is the most technically specialised sector in Accountancy Capital’s practice. Finance professionals at FCA-regulated businesses operate in an environment with specific regulatory capital requirements, client money obligations and FCA reporting frameworks that have no equivalent in general commercial businesses. The finance team that supports the SMF2 CFO — the Financial Controllers, Finance Managers, Regulatory Reporting Managers, CASS Accountants and FP&A professionals who run the day-to-day finance operation inside a regulated firm — is the area where Accountancy Capital is most active and most differentiated.

Sector Page Key Roles London FC Range
FCA-Regulated Firms — Hub FC, FM, FBP, FP&A, Reg Reporting, CASS £80k–£115k

Technology & IT Services

Technology businesses — including SaaS companies, software businesses, IT services firms and managed service providers — have a finance function with specific characteristics. Subscription and recurring revenue models require FP&A and management accounting capability that goes beyond standard P&L reporting to include ARR waterfall analysis, cohort modelling, NRR tracking and unit economics. Finance professionals with genuine SaaS finance experience command a premium in this market and are in consistently short supply relative to demand from the UK technology sector.

For fintechs and technology businesses that are also FCA-regulated, see the Fintech Finance Recruitment page which covers the additional regulatory context.

Public Practice & Professional Services

Public practice accountancy firms — from Big Four to regional independents — and professional services businesses including law firms, consultancies and advisory practices have a finance function that combines the standard qualified finance requirements with sector-specific knowledge of professional services P&L drivers: billable hours, utilisation rates, lock-up days, WIP management, partner draws and profit allocation. Finance professionals with direct professional services experience are valued in this market for the speed with which they can become commercially useful without requiring education in the specific business model.

Property & Facilities Management

Property businesses — including real estate investment, property development, facilities management, housing associations and construction groups — have finance functions characterised by long-term contract accounting, lease accounting under IFRS 16, development cost capitalisation, fund structures and, in the case of registered social landlords, social housing SORP compliance. Finance professionals with direct property or construction experience are consistently sought in this market and command a meaningful premium over general commercial candidates at Financial Controller and Finance Manager level.

Health, Beauty & Consumer

Health, beauty and consumer businesses — including retail, direct-to-consumer brands, pharmaceutical businesses, personal care groups and consumer goods companies — have finance functions shaped by multi-channel revenue, inventory and stock management accounting, category P&L analysis and the commercial partnering demands of a business where margin management and promotional effectiveness are central financial questions. Finance Business Partners and commercially-oriented Management Accountants are particularly sought in this sector.

Hospitality & Leisure

Hospitality, leisure, restaurants, hotels and travel businesses have a finance function defined by high transaction volumes, site-level or unit-level P&L management, seasonal revenue patterns, and the operational finance partnership that a multi-site business requires from its Financial Controllers and Finance Managers. Wet-led and food-led hospitality, accommodation businesses, leisure centres and travel intermediaries each have specific accounting characteristics — including the treatment of advance bookings and deposits, F&B gross margin, staff scheduling costs and property lease management — that favour candidates with direct sector experience.

Sectors Not Listed

Accountancy Capital recruits qualified finance professionals across the full range of UK business sectors, including manufacturing and engineering, retail and e-commerce, media and entertainment, education, healthcare and life sciences, charity and not-for-profit, and all professional services. If your sector is not listed above, the absence of a dedicated page does not reflect absence of placement activity — it reflects the editorial decision to build pages around the sectors where we have the most concentrated specialist knowledge.

For any sector-specific requirement, call 0204 553 8893 or brief us directly. We will give you an honest view of the candidate pool, the realistic salary range and the expected search timeline for your specific sector before you commit to a search process.

A Note from Our Founder — Adrian Lawrence FCA

Sector experience matters at qualified finance level, but it matters differently at different seniority levels. For a Financial Controller at a PE-backed business, sector experience is less critical than the ability to manage a fast close, produce investor-grade reporting and handle the dynamics of a PE ownership structure. For a Finance Business Partner at an FMCG business, sector knowledge is more important because the commercial questions they are expected to engage with — promotional margin, category mix, ranging decisions — are specific to the business model and take time to learn.

The most important question to ask before setting a sector experience requirement is: what specific technical or commercial knowledge does this person need to be independently useful in the first three months? If the answer is “they need to understand our specific accounting system or business model,” sector experience may be less important than you think. If the answer is “they need to produce FCA GABRIEL returns or run a CASS reconciliation from day one,” sector experience is non-negotiable and the salary needs to reflect the genuine scarcity of candidates who have it.
